The mountain Canisp (in English - The White Mountain) taken at sunrise from Caisteal Liath (The Grey Castle) on Suilven (The Pillar) during an overnight wild camp on the mountain. Situated in the far North West Highlands, Suilven is one of Scotland's most remote mountains. By Scottish standards all routes to Suilven are long days; all are around 16 miles / 25 km in length over rough terrain. I decided to break the trek by camping on top of the mountain. The trek from Lochinver carrying 55lb / 25kg packs is then followed by an arduous climb up the Bealach Mor (the great gully) on one of Scotland's steepest mountains. The 2000 feet / 600 metre fall focuses the mind and tired legs.
